Mouth wound healing? [Jul. 27th, 2005|12:22 pm]
Previous Entry Share Next Entry
Anyone know any good ways to speed healing of wounds inside one's mouth? Guess my teeth cut up the inside of my mouth a bit when I face-planted. The rest of my face is healing very nicely thanks to adammaker's sooper sekrit herbalriffic wound-healing goop. Adam, you should patent and sell that stuff.

Already rinsing the inside of my mouth with salt water. (OW!) TYhey said they almost stitched it. I should have insisted when I woke up. And yes. I am supposed to go back to the doctor, but I am putting it off because it will cost money. I guess they're sending my stuff to my old doctor instead of to Health Care Access.

For those who don't already know what happened and who want to know, it's pretty much all over the newsbox (which is down below the comic) on BCK at these three pages

The short version is I wrecked the scooter--Bounced on my face and head and knocked myself out, giving myself a bad concussion, some cuts and scrapes and contusions, and cut up the inside of my mouth on my teeth a little. I'm still a little scattered and the girls say I keep repeating myself (because I keep forgetting things), but I am getting less confused and doing better about remembering now. I have not lost any part of my reasoning ability--just having a little trouble remembering things, and as I said, that is getting better. I am also upset that the scooter now needs a bit of work I cna't afford. *sighs*

I am more grateful than ever to be alive, though. I didn't break a single bone (unless you count some hairline fractures in my jaw). The girls are taking wonderful care of me, too. They tell me I'm trying to do too much too soon, though--for instance yesterday I walked downtown (wanted to drive because I wasn't sure I was up to walking, but Cat was like, 'if you're not up to walking, you shouldn't drive.") to hand off roughs to Stacy at Big Daddy's for some filler strips, and ended up waiting over at Border's for Kitty to come get me so I could lean on her on the way home.

It is frustrating, though. I want to be Doing Things. Of course just after typing this I'm exhausted, so I suppose I'll go rest now.

Love you all. See ya.

How bad is the mouth wound? Too much raw garlic can cause a chemical burn.

When I get ulcers in my mouth, they are patches that are rubbed raw, I swish with Mylanta and spit it out. It seems to help with the healing process. I don't know how well it will work with cuts so your mileage may vary.

Best Wishes on the healing process.

Due to my unpleasant tendency to bite my lip whenever I'm trying to calm down or trying to stay quiet, I've endedu p with some nasty wounds in my mouth...

I buy the ZIlactin stuff (or whatever it's called, it starts with a Z like that) for in-mouth coldsores and put it over the wound. It creates a skin-like covering and tastes rather bizarre. XD But it does work for reducing pain, because it has a numbing agent in it. <3 Good luck!

carmex. . . it heals canker sores, so I think that it would probably work. and if the sores ache, you could use ora-gel

I have no idea for the mouth sores, but I will say that you should listen to the girls and rest a bit more. You may like to think it, but you're not superman. Give yourself a chance to heal.

Colegate makes a peroxide based mouth rinse, it is great for cuts and canker sores. Availale at Walgreens.

My mom worked in a dental office for 25 years and always said salt water rinses and brush often/regularly to keep the bacteria out. Sorry about your introduction to the sidewalk. I hope you're feeling better and get well soon.

Plus, I believe carmex is for cold sores, not canker sores. I wouldn't put it in your mouth, but that's just me...

Dude, quit pushing yourself. You're actually slowing down the healing process by overdoing it. Relax, take it easy as much as possible, and give your body time to recover and knit itself back together.
BTW, I will give you a call but I think I'll wait a day or two unless it's time-sensitive. That way you'll be more cognizant. :)

I sent a small donation your way. I really do wish it could be more, but yeah... my bills are getting high due to the warmer weather and the gas prices. Heal well!

I think, more than anything, a scrupulous oral hygiene routine will do the trick. Brush and floss after every meal. Rinse well. Use an oral antiseptic rinse like Listine (oh, that will hurt, but it will clean), or even salt water.

Other things would include the garlic fix Adam suggested, but be careful with that. (I've hear herbal horror stories involving burns) Parsley is also antiseptic, so you could try eating some of that, but I don't know if it will do much good... kinda depends on where the wounds are.

:0/ Take care.

Flush the canker with witchhazel (followed by rinsing it with water...as I expect it will burn quite a bit and not taste yummy) then get some ora-gel for it. that'll help flush any infections, and the ora-gel forms a coat over the wound which will help keep it from becoming irritated.

I had the insides of my mouth torn and smashed and generally in need of stitches a few (13) years back. This level of damage can take a long time to heal. I still have a scar that runs from the inside of my upper lip to the top of my gums, just under my nostril. It's on the inside, so no one ever sees it, but it serves as a reminder to me to "not ever do that again."

Well, I don't know what to do about speeding up mouth wound healing (Other than maybe making sure your nutrition is good? That should speed up any kind of healing) but I just wanted to say I've been thinking good thoughts your way since the accident, and I hope you feel better soon.
